I completed my masters at the University of Toronto in 2016, packed up all my belongings in a minivan, and made the big move across the country to Alberta. I began my career working alongside a team of occupational therapists, psychologists, and other speech-language pathologists in the school setting. Our team collaborated to provide universal programming at the classroom level in areas such as social skills and reading comprehension as well as provided support and recommendations to teachers. I also provided individual services to students from kindergarten to grade 12, in both one-on-one sessions and small group settings.

One integral aspect of my practice is formulating speech and language goals for my clients that are both unique to their communication needs and functional within their environment. I am a strong believer of including close communication partners into the therapy session to help promote the carry-over of skills into the child’s everyday life and I have seen firsthand the benefit of doing so.

Hi, I’m Colleen! I graduated with my masters in Occupational Therapy in 2013 from the University of Alberta and have diverse experience working with children and adults as both a mental health therapist and occupational therapist. My practice is characterized by a holistic approach to child development and overall family wellness.

Since becoming a parent myself, my passion lies in empowering parents to become emotionally regulated, steady, and sturdy pillars of support for their children. I believe that by helping parents manage their own sensory needs effectively, they can create a more nurturing and stable environment for their families. Parenting is hard, and I want to help build your capacity to enjoy these family years.

Parental Mental Health Coaching Approach

Emotional Regulation Techniques: Teaching parents practical strategies to recognize and manage their emotions, even in high-stress situations. Mindful Parenting: Introducing mindfulness practices that help parents stay present and responsive to their children’s needs. Attachment-Based Strategies: Methods are rooted in attachment theory, fostering secure parent-child relationships. Child Development: Providing education on & promoting age-appropriate skills and milestones across all developmental domains. Play-Based Therapy: Utilizing play as a powerful tool for learning, development, and healing.- Sensory Processing Education: Helping parents understand and address their own sensory needs, as well as their children’s to reduce family stress.

Feeding Therapy Approach

As a mom to three young children, all of whom had tethered oral tissues and various feeding struggles, I understand how stressful feeding can be.  These experiences inspired me to specialize further as a pediatric feeding therapist. My hope is that mealtime can become be a time of connection and comfort for all family members. My approach to therapy is to come alongside children and their families with comprehensive assessment to understand the ‘why’ behind feeding struggles.  Then we can collaborate together to make a plan that is meaningful, functional, and fun.

In addition to parent coaching, and feeding therapy, I am happy to support activities of daily living, fine/gross motor development, emotional regulation, and sensory processing.

I look forward to supporting you!
